Dogs for Rehoming

We are currently looking for homes for some very special dogs.

These dogs do have issues that will need people who are experienced collie owners.

If you think you may be able to help please contact us, protectingprelovedbordercollies@yahoo.com

Tinker - 9 months

Tinker is a lovely boy but does have some issues with guarding with other dogs so needs to be the only dog in the home. He is eager to please and very bright. Tinker needs someone who will continue his training.

Buddy - 13 months

Buddy is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside by standing at the door and whining.

He’s, bright, a quick learner, eager to please you, really loves to be told he’s a good boy, and enjoys his treats. He is a good boy inside a restaurant or cafe and will stay calm and relaxed.

Buddy likes taking some down time in his large crate with comfortable bedding (with the door open). He is happy to use this as his bed.

He will readily jump into the hatch or tail gate of your car, as he associates this with good things - going for a walk.

Buddy is initially a strong puller on the lead, so his new owner will need to work on loose lead walking - his pulling does diminish somewhat as the walk progresses.

Buddy will jump up, if you let him, when meeting people on a walk, and this will need some work. He will get a little worried and react to anything that appears ahead of him and needs reassurance, and on occasion will lie down eyeing. He can get a little anxious if over-stimulated or sees something new, and will, in those instances, bark.

He will give chase to wildlife, deer etc. and is untested around livestock. He’ll chase cats and small furries if they run.

Buddy has some recall, but this does need strengthening. He’s had limited exposure to a whistle for recall, but it did seem to work positively.

He is sensitive to loud noises.

Like all adolescents Buddy is energetic and needs clear boundaries. Whilst not essential, Buddy would be a good candidate for agility, and has had some exposure to trotting poles and weaves, which he did well at. He does need to live in an active home though, where his need for mental stimulation is also completely met. He can be left for up to 4 hours.

Buddy is seeking a semi rural or a quiet home, with adults - and perhaps older, sensible, teenage/adult dog-savvy children could be considered, as he has shown the collie trait of nipping, and is worried, shows discomfort around young children in close proximity.

This boy’s had a lot of change in a short time, and now really needs to get the chance to settle with a committed person or family who will put in the time, stability, routine, and training he needs.

Whilst he’s not lived with another dog, Buddy may be suitable to live with an older, calm natured dog, perhaps a spayed bitch, with careful introductions.

Buddy has walked regularly with a dog walker with multiple dogs, has had friends visit with dogs and has shown no problem sharing his space and toys.

Could Buddy be the boy for you?

Shep - 7 years

Shep has a lovely temperament and has shown himself to be an affectionate genuinely nice boy.

Good with people and dogs, Shep was originally from a sheep dog trials home. He is ISDS registered and was bred from top trials dogs, with the intention of being trained to participate in sheepdog trials. How much, or how little of this training actually took place is unknown.

Shep is well mannered on lead, has good recall with his foster carer, and no guarding issues. He would make a loyal companion for someone who has the time and patience to understand and respond to his needs.

He can be left for a good 4 hours. He ignores livestock onlead (how he would respond off-lead is unknown) and he’s untested with horses, cats and small furries.

Shep has lived happily both inside a house, and in an outdoor kennel. (He’s currently kennelled).

He’s ideally seeking a rural home (the right semi-rural home may also be considered for him)

JESS - 5 YEARS

Jess is an affectionate girl and will readily jump on your knee for cuddles. She’s a worrier, and can get anxious and barky around strangers and other dogs.

She’ll allow you to wash and brush her, and rolls on her back to show you her tummy when the brush comes out!

Jess is an athletic girl and will need a minimum of 6 foot fencing, with a perimeter clear of any items that could be used as vaulting potential.

She is well mannered on her lead, but has never walked off the property, as she lives in the house conservatory, on a farm, with 25 acres of mixed woodland and grass.

Jess has had no experience of traffic, other than farm machinery, and little experience of travel. Her recall is reasonable but does require strengthening. Jess loves to play with her ball, and will happily retrieve it for you.

She shows no evidence of prey drive or guarding issues with food and toys. She’s never mixed with children.

She can be left for 2 hours initially and then gradually build it up.

Jess is not good with other dogs, and isn’t good with people she doesn’t know. She has a history of nipping, so this will need to be proactively managed.

Jess is seeking an adult only calm rural home without too many comings and goings. She is currently living with another dog but can be bossy with him so ideally would be better as an only dog.

If you feel you can offer Jess the right home please email us at protectingprelovedbordercollies@yahoo.com

SHADOW

3 years

This handsome boy has a lovely temperament, he’s friendly, loving, curious, playful, and is very receptive to training. He loves nothing more than playing with his ball and frisby, spending time with his people, demonstrates good recall and will lay down and sit if you ask him to.

Shadow is likely to be fine with similar sized dogs with careful introductions, preferably a female, but not with small dogs or furries. He can be a bit guardy with food, so needs to be fed alone. He’ll bark when someone arrives, and will get agitated when vehicles are being moved around in the yard - he is currently kennelled outside, but has previously lived in a house.

He’s had little experience of travelling. Shadow can get over-stimulated by movement and has shown his anxiety in his previous home if there’s a lot of comings and goings by barking.

Shadow is looking for a calm rural or semi-rural home, that’s not too busy, with understanding adults, who can gently guide his transition back into a home environment with consistency, love and patience. He needs someone who has the time and motivation to reinforce his basic training, and to ensure he gets plenty of enrichment activity to nurture his mind.

Shadow could live with sensible dog-savvy children of around 12 years and above (as he can get excited and jump up). He has been well behaved, enjoying time with visiting grandchildren, and lived with cats previously. He has been walked on a collar and lead and also a harness sometimes in his previous home, where he reportedly only pulled on lead if he saw children or cats.

Shadow was crated for a while and found it very distressing, so he’s definitely not suitable for crating. Could you be the one for Shadow? He’s a super lad who really deserves the chance of his own home, and in time would repay you in spades with his love, companionship and loyalty.

Currently in Foster in Ammanford Wales.

Meet and greets encouraged.

Elsa - 10 years

Elsa would make someone a wonderful companion dog, happy to just potter about, meandering along at slow pace and sniffing. She also sometimes enjoys a short game of tuggy, tummy rubs and cuddles. Not interested in energetic games with balls or frisbees.

Elsa needs someone to continue supporting her with reducing her weight.

She happily sleeps in her two beds, one downstairs, and the other on the landing - often switching between the two.

Elsa is ok with children outside of the home, but has never lived with them. She is good with strangers and keen to meet them both inside and outside the home. She will, if not controlled, show the collie trait of nipping at their ankles as they leave, but this can be managed.

Elsa’s recall is good, and she responds to ‘stay close’ when on the lead, but in a new home these commands will need reinforcing. She’ll let you know she needs to toilet by sitting close and staring at you. She’ll allow you to handle her, enjoys a brush but not keen on having her rear end groomed.

Untested with livestock, Elsa will intensely eye cats/small furries, but only chase if they run. Elsa is currently cohabiting with a cat, so may be able to live with a cat with careful introductions.

She can be left for up to 4 hours, and is also fine with fireworks and loud noises.

Not good with other dogs when meeting on-lead. Elsa will initially sniff, then reactively snaps at them. She’s a little guardy around her food, and will let you know with a growl - easily managed by feeding her and stepping well away and leaving her to eat alone.

Elsa dislikes crates, so this would not be a suitable method of transporting her or using in the house. She needs understanding and patience with car journeys, as she tends to find them over-stimulating and will initially be barky and unsettled.

Elsa is seeking a quiet and calm understanding adult home who will accept her quirks in exchange for her companionship and loyalty. She needs to be the only dog so she can have all the cuddles.

SETH - 2 years

Seth, has a lovely temperament , happily interacts with his sibling, Bear, but we wouldn’t place him in a home with another male. He could live with a spayed female, with careful introductions.

Seth is good with people, very energetic as you’d expect from a curious adolescent, affectionate and immensely trainable.

Not suitable to live with cats or small furries and would need to be cautious around livestock until you understand and ‘have the measure’ of him.

Seth is strong on the lead, so this will need some work, he has no guarding issues and has good recall (this will need reinforcing in a new home), and he is fine being left for up to 4 hours.

Seth has had no experience of travel or traffic to date.

He will need time and understanding support from his new carer to transition into a home environment - he currently lives kennelled outdoors.

Seth is seeking a rural or semi-rural home where he could live with sensible dog-savvy children over 10.

In foster in Wales and meet and greet welcome.
