Appeal for Experienced Border Collie Fosterers

If you’ve ever shared your life with a Border Collie, you already know what makes this breed extraordinary — the intelligence, the sensitivity, the drive, and the deep loyalty that sits behind those bright, questioning eyes. At Protecting Preloved Border Collies (PPBC), we see those qualities every day in the dogs who come to us seeking safety, stability, and a chance to simply be Collies again. Right now, we urgently need experienced fosterers who understand this complex, brilliant breed and can offer temporary homes to Collies who are waiting for their second chance.

Many of the dogs who come to PPBC have been:

  • passed from home to home, leaving them confused or anxious

  • surrendered from working environments and needing help to adjust to companion life

  • rescued from unsafe or unsuitable situations where their needs weren’t met

Every Collie is assessed so we can understand what kind of home they need and what support will help them thrive. But what they all need first is a safe place to land — and that’s where fosterers make all the difference.

Why Foster?

Fostering gives a Collie the chance to decompress, rebuild trust, and rediscover joy. It allows us to learn who they are, what they need, and what kind of forever home will suit them best. For dogs who have been misunderstood or overwhelmed, a knowledgeable foster home can be life-changing.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking fosterers who:

  • have experience with Border Collies or other high-drive breeds

  • understand the mental stimulation and structure Collies need

  • can offer patience, consistency, and a calm environment

  • are comfortable supporting dogs with quirks, anxieties, or training needs

  • can provide short, medium, or long-term foster care depending on availability

PPBC provides guidance, support, and lifetime backup for every dog in our care. You will never be alone — our team is here to help every step of the way.

The Reality

We are currently receiving around five requests every day for Collies needing help. Many of these dogs cannot be taken in simply because we do not have enough foster homes available. For some, a foster placement is the difference between hope and heartbreak.

If You Can Help

If you have the experience, the space, and the heart to foster a Collie, we would love to hear from you. Your home could be the safe haven a dog has been waiting for.
